The Luigi Sacconi Foundation was established in 1996 to honor the memory of Prof. Luigi Sacconi who was a prominent figure in Chemistry and founder of a School in Florence where many international scientists have been educated. It aims at promoting scientific research in the molecular sciences at the local, national and international levels, with particular attention to chemistry and in its implications in health, quality of life, environment, energy, and technological and industrial developments.

The Luigi Sacconi Foundation promotes seminars, courses and meetings and other activities supporting the exchange of scientific knowledge, subsidizes the activity of Italian and foreign researchers, and establishes awards.

CERM has several collaborations, partnerships and joint projects with national and international industries with the role of developing new processes, new methodologies and new approaches employed by industrial partners. In particular, two important initiatives have been stimulated by the scientific activity of CERM: the spin-off companies Giotto Biotech and Cloud Centurion.
