Elettra

The state-of-the-art Structural Biology laboratory at Elettra focuses on proteins involved in DNA replication, genome stability and autophagy. The laboratory includes facilities for cloning, expression, biochemical and biophysical characterization and high-throughput crystallization of macromolecules, and hosts a Protein Production and Purification facility, that provides purified proteins or training in the production of recombinant proteins to academic and commercial users, for functional and/or structural studies. The facility is part of the Protein Production and Purification Partnership in Europe (P4EU) scientific network.

Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste is a large multidisciplinary laboratory featuring a third-generation synchrotron radiation source and a free-electron laser. Thousands of national and international scientists and PhD students access every year the Elettra storage ring, or join its extensive programme of research in basic and applied fields including physics, chemistry, nanotechnology, structural biology, pharmacology, environmental science etc.

A NanoInnovation laboratory applies atomic force microscopy, microfluidics and nanografting to biological analysis and cancer diagnostics.

Two macromolecular crystallography beamlines are available to users: XRD1, jointly run with the IC-CNR, is a general purpose diffraction beamline that can be employed for a variety of experiments, and XRD2, recently built in partnership with the Indian scientific community, offering a brilliant MAD beamline dedicated to macromolecular crystallography.

Elettra is strongly involved in the activities of the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) and is the Italian Partner Facility within the CERIC-ERIC (Central European Research Infrastructures Consortium), hosting its statutory seat.

A SAXS beamline is managed by the Austrian Academy of Science and can be accessed through CERIC-ERIC.
